Sickle Cell Disease
Is A Global Health Problem
In 2008 the United Nations declared sickle cell disease a global health problem and by resolution made June 19th World Sickle Cell Day. In recognition of World Sickle Cell Day, SCD Soldier Network will host a memorial balloon release in honor of our Fallen Soldiers
Because World Sickle Cell Day is on Sunday Father's Day, we will host the event on Saturday June 18, 2011. It will be held at the APEX Museum located at 135 Auburn Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30303. It will be held from 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM. We will highlight our Sickle Cell Dad's before paying tribute to our Fallen Soldiers. It's an event for the entire family!
Our Sickle Cell Dad's are like no other dads we know. They are the men that stand on the front-lines and fight against the war that has been waged against our community. They are strong even when they have no reason to be. Watching your child endure pain that you have no control to stop is what they have had to withstand.
Then there are our dads who battle this disease head on and are still strong enough for us to call them our hero. Having sickle cell and not allowing it to have them is what makes them a step above the rest,
Although we wish every dad a Happy Father's Day, we give a special salute to our Sickle Cell Dad's
Want more information about the Atlanta World Sickle Cell Day event? Contact us at 770-460-8016. Come out and join us. Learn more about sickle cell disease and how you can help us spread greater awareness of the blood disorder.
There will be World Sickle Cell Day Events planned accross the globe. Find a celebration somewhere near you and help fight the lack of awareness.
