SCD Soldier Network, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that serves as a national registry of volunteers who are dedicated to supporting those with Sickle Cell Disease. It was our online support group that inspired the move towards an offline platform so that there is a real impact to the lives of those battling SCD. The purpose of the SCD Soldier Network is to provide an army of support for those in need of assistance. In the future we will be offering various services to adults with Sickle Cell, as well as special services for children and their parents.
Our primary function is to support programs that bring awareness of sickle cell disease and train those interested in becoming sickle cell advocates. We provide assistance to those in need of help when an issue arises as a result of having the disease.
The additional services that we plan to offer will come directly from recommendations of patients and their families. We will partner with organizations that are already active in providing services within the Sickle Cell Community and through our relationship with our Peer Groups we will close the gaps on disparities that exist.
We are currently seeking individuals who want to assist in bringing greater awareness to sickle cell disease and offer support to those that battle the disorder There are three soldier levels:
SCD Support Soldiers:
Our support soldiers will meet regularly to discuss the projects, events and issues that need to be addressed. These soldiers will attend events, make phone calls, and send out mailings. The service of this level soldier is primarily behind the scenes, except for during events.
SCD Front-Line Soldiers:
Our front-line soldiers will also meet along with the primary level soldiers, however they also meet for training and event briefings. They are the people who are activated to go into the trenches when a situation arises in their area. These Soldiers will be the pulse of the network and will be very visible in the Sickle Cell Community.
SCD Tiny Soldiers:
Our SCD tiny soldiers is designed for those 12 and under and they are our protégés. The children that battle sickle cell or have relatives with the disease can attend our awareness events and learn more about the blood disorder, through being exposed to those with it. Our children will learn the basics of educating others about the disease and will in essence be trained as the next generation of advocates.
If you are interested in becoming a SCD Soldier please fill out the information form in the Recruiting Station page of this website and a representative will contact you with more information.
